What is Flakka?

Flakka, also called "gravel", is a dangerous synthetic cathinone drug called α-PVP or alpha-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone.  It is similar to other synthetic stimulants which have been popularized as "bath salts". Flakka comes in either a crystal or powder form and can be eaten, snorted, injected, smoked, or vaporized.

Where are people using it?

Flakka use has been spreading rapidly and is prominent in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Other parts of the country have also seen a spike in use.  Forensic Fluids Laboratories has detected Flakka in nearly all of the states that we service.

What are the effects?

Symptoms of Flakka use include:

  • agitation
  • anxiety
  • high body temperature
  • hallucinations
  • excited delirium
  • psychosis

Can it be detected in a drug test?

Forensic Fluids Laboratories is one of the very few laboratories in the country that offers a test for Flakka.  The drug is relatively new to the United States which means that it is a challenge for most companies to add to their available panels.  It is very important for us to be able to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date testing available which is why we make it a priority to test for all of the newest compounds.
